Macaroni Penguin (Eudyptes chrysolophus)

Out of all the species of penguins, the macaroni penguin is the most numerous. They can grow up to be 28 inches high and can weigh 7.75 to 14 pounds. They have a reddish brownish beak with a yellow, orange, and black crest on their head. On land they make loud braying sounds and on sea they bark, they are normally very loud and aggressive. Scientist are very worried because of many environmental factors the macaroni penguin is vulnerable to extinction.
Macaroni penguins live in the Antarctic area, during the breeding season they come onshore of some islands including the South Georgia, Crozet, Macdonald, Keuguelen and Heard.
Like many penguins, the macaroni penguin’s diet consists of fish, krill, and squid. During the day macaroni penguins look for their prey by diving, in two minute, 50 to 200 ft. During the night macaroni penguins can only dive 20 feet to look for a meal, this does not happen too often though.
