Adelie Penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae)

Adelie penguins are well known and most common out of all the Antarctic Penguins. They can be between 18 to 24 inches high and can weigh between 8.75 to 12 pounds. Adelie penguins can live between 10 to 15 years. Like most penguins, they have a black head and back with a white front. The physical characteristic that separated Adelie penguins with the rest is that they have a white ring around their eyes and have a reddish colored beak with a black tip. Scientist is least concerned with Adelie penguin being extinct.
Aldelie penguins live in the Antarctic and its nearby islands. During the breeding season they come onshore in large colonies but during the winter they spend their life at sea.
Adelie penguins eat krill and sometimes even small fish. They dive 66 ft to find food when they can dive up to 578 ft.
