Gentoo Penguin (Pygoscelis papua)

     Gentoo penguins are the third lagest species of penguins behind the king and emperor penguins. They can be between 30 to 36 inches high and weigh between 12 to 18.8 pounds. Gentoo penguins can live 10 to 15 years in the wild and up to 30 years in captivity. They have a white stripe expanding across their head, a reddish/orange colored bill brown eyes, and yellow/orange feet. Scientist is worried because gentoo penguin is near threatened.
    Gentoo Penguins are found on islands in the Antarctic region. The main colonies are naturally found around these areas: Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Kerguelen Islands and smaller colonies are found on Macquarie Island, Heard Islands, South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula.
   Gentoo penguin’s main diet is krill, but fish is only 15% of their diet.
