Fairy or Little Blue Penguin (Eudyptula minor)

Fairy penguin is also known as the little blue penguin and is the smallest species of penguins. They grow to be 16 inches tall and weigh 2.25 pounds. Their life averages about 7 years. The beak of the penguin is dark grey with silvery grey eyes. Every year during the end of the breeding season they molt. Scientist is least concerned about the fairy or little blue penguin turning extinct anytime soon.
Fairy penguins live in large colonies in the southern coast of Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand. During the day they hunt for food out in the sea and during the night they come back to their burrow.
Little penguin’s diet consist mostly of fish, squid, and crustaceans. When looking for food they make dives of 30 ft but once in a while they will go all the way down to the ocean floor to look for a tasty meal.
